Hi, my name is Maggie and I recently decided to take classes again. I took classes about 11 years ago for medical transcription when it was still PCDI. My husband was active duty Navy at the time and correspondence classes were the best option for me.
Fast forward and I am a 38 yr old stay at home mom to three girls (4yrs, 27 months and 12 months.) They keep me busy and I don’t have time to go to a traditional school. Between my husband’s work schedule and day care expenses, I thought I was in a “no win” situation to go back to school. I decided to take a look into the classes offered here and am quite happy to see that a lot has changed over the years.
I have enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree Program for Business Administration. It’s going to be a “tough going” to keep up with school work, keeping a house, and raising the girls—but I’m confident that I’ll be able to accomplish my goal of completing my degree in time to go back to work when the girls are all in school.
I’ve been in the secretarial/admin assistant field for many years and will continue in this field after I get my degree. I can’t wait for my text books to get here, so I can start a new chapter in my life.
Good luck to everyone here!
Maggie
Bachelor’s Program in Business Administration Student
Hello everyone. As I’ve mentioned in the past, we think it’s really important to put a “face” on our student community.
Yes, we have student avatars on our MySpace, Facebook, Student Forum Community pages, etc. We also have photos from our 2007 Graduation Ceremony on Ashworth’s Flickr page. This is a good start, but I’d really like our student community to be much more dynamic in terms of photographs.
There’s so much we can do with photographs, i.e. Flickr Groups, Online Year Book, Student Paper, Photoblogs, etc.
What kind of photos are we looking for? We want this community to be as authentic as possible, so we’re simply looking for amateur “point and click” photos from your everday lives—the kind of real world photos that tell everyone a little bit about yourself.
I know that a lot of students are not familiar or particularly comfortable uploading photos to online sharing sites such as Flickr. Don’t get me wrong, I know that a lot of you are, but I want to make the photo submission process as simple as possible for everyone.
For the time being, please submit your photos to the following email address.
Don’t worry about what format you send them in. I’ll figure it out.
As I collect photos, I’ll create a unique group on our Flickr page that every student will have full access to. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a virtual gallery of your classmates that you can add to at the click of a button?
I think it would be very inspiring and the possibilities are endless once we actually begin building a substantial archive of photos.
I hope to begin receiving your photos soon. Once I collect enough, we’ll create a new Flickr group that every student can upload their photos directly to. Every student who participates will ultimately determine how we can best utilize these photos to create a more visually dynamic student community. Let’s just focus on getting the ball rolling right now!

My name is Larry and I am a 26 year old male living in Texas. I have been with Ashworth University for about four years now—taking my time in completing my Associate Degree in Business Mgmt. For everyone who is considering joining Ashworth, I would tell you to go ahead and start toward your goal today.
I haven’t focused as much on obtaining my degree quickly as I have become determined to make the most of the courses and really work through the courses as they were designed. If you are looking for affordable tuition with a wide range of subjects; Ashworth is the place for you. I hope to complete my degree soon and will most likely enroll in the Bachelor’s Program. Best of luck to everyone.
And for those of you that think distance education doesn’t work—-you need to really think about that. No matter what school you attend, it all depends on what you get out of your studies. The classes I have taken at Ashworth have been well written and offer an approach that is easy to understand. Best of all, they are accredited by the DETC which is listed with the US Dept. of Education (and the DETC will not give just anyone approval.) You have to be top notch and have all your classes reviewed.
Enough said. I am sure you get the point by now.
Make it a Great Day,
Larry
“Proud to be a student of Ashworth University”
With their latest groundbreaking video, created from 3-D data captured by the latest in laser scanning technologies, Radiohead continues to close in on the singularity many of our childhood friends may or may not be sleeping through. The video speaks for itself, so my story ends here. I’ve included a link to the “making of the video” as well. These features are usually boring, but this one is actually cool. Check it out…
My name is Ashley and I’ve been with Ashworth University since May of 2008. I have to say that I am so terribly thankful to have found this school. I am twenty years old, soon to be twenty-one, and there has been little to no time at all for my studies. While I knew what I wanted to do with my life, working and paying my bills would just not allow me any time to go to a full time/on-campus college program. My family couldn’t help much either, so it was up to me to take the initiative and find a way to get my education and do what I’ve always wanted to do with my life.
When I found Ashworth, I was skeptical, “There’s no way I can get a real degree online, it’s just not possible!” Boy was I wrong, lol. After talking to one of the admissions advisors, I realized that this was the perfect thing for me to do—the only way I would ever get my degree.
Now, I could have gone to night school classes, worked two jobs, and slept three hours a night—but thats a little much. No need to kill yourself trying to get the job you want in life. Trust me, I’ve been there!
The first set of materials arrived about five days after my enrollment and its been like a dream come true ever since. There’s no lugging around fifty books for six other classes I don’t need and not a ton of homework that keeps me up into the wee hours of the night. My boss and co-worker are pleased to see me so happy about getting this education—and being able to make something of myself in the process.
I really hope that everyone enrolled in Ashworth University, whether it be online or off campus, is taking full advantage all the amazing opportunity this school offers to all of its’ students.
Without Ashworth, I’d be completely lost, but I’m happy, learning and well on my way to making my dream come true. I wish all of you the same and the best of luck in your studies!
Ashley
Legal Assistant (CSI In Training!)
Ashworth University Criminal Justice Program
My name is Kelvin. There’s so much to say, so I think I’ll try to summarize. I graduated high school (1998) and went to Basic Training for the Army National Guard as a graphic artist/multimedia specialist. After Basic and AIT, I went to Columbus State University (1999) and majored in Communication. School never was hard for me. All I had to do was go to class, no real studying needed, and I pretty much did well. However; I was bored and unmotivated, so I ended up leaving CSU after the first year.
Since then, I’ve done a lot of things—from working as a graphic artist at a small newspaper to now working as a communications specialist for a big Fortune 500 company.
Outside of work, I started (and run) an outreach ministry - completed a BA in Ministry (though it doesn’t help in the corporate world; the school does not have accreditation recognized by the US DOE) - that reaches people all the way in India, Nepal,
Africa, etc.
I have: written and self-published a book of poetry, published a music CD, been nominated for the “Marquis Who’s Who in America” twice, held a few seminars, had numerous ministry-related speaking engagements (also a couple of business-type, motivational speaking opportunities), done some acting and modeling work, and am constantly working on new things—like trying to get a publishing company “off the ground.”
Unfortunately, with all of this comes very little financial gain. Most has been non-profit and/or sporadic in regards to the paid events. Therefore, I rely on my corporate employment as my source of stability, but it is extra difficult to move up without a “governmentally-recognized” accredited degree and I’ve gotten tired of being passed over because of this credential. I’m also at a point where I feel motivated enough to really pursue this type of degree again and Ashworth University provides a format that is better-suited to my life due to its flexibility.
It also has one of the best tuitions of all of the online and “adult-learner” programs that I’ve researched.
So, I’m ready. I’m ready to work hard to get my BBA and use it in the corporate arena, but also to use some of the principles that I’ve learn for my publishing company and motivational speaker work that I am pursuing. Hopefully, through this education, I will reach a point where I no longer have to work a corporate job and can work on my other pursuits full time.
I believe that this AU program will be an important step in getting there.
While sitting at home last night watching the news, I was hit with the metaphoric ‘ton of bricks’. The world we live in has changed….in some significant ways. I am from the South, specifically Louisiana. I know we have a reputation of being a backwards state, and corrupt to boot. But even here, I see the effects of what is happening in the world around us.
I can remember as a kid hearing about a female on the national ticket for VP, and the common opinion that ‘it will never happen’. How many of you out there remember that? I believe it was Geraldine Ferrero….but I could be wildly mistaken. I can also remember growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and seeing the remnants of segregation. Not segregation imposed by the government or society…but self imposed segregation. Where black mothers would pull their children out of the way and tell them “Let that white lady through, are you crazy child?” and “You wait your turn son, don’t go start no trouble.” I don’t know if the parents really wanted to do what they did, perhaps it was the unfortunate way things were in this country for so long.
I can remember people talking about what stores they would and would not shop at, based on the color of the owners skin, or the color of the skin of the employees. I can remember going with an uncle to drop his car off at the shop, and watching him get highly upset when black man came out to pop the hood and help him. I also remember that same uncle telling me to get back in the car and driving to the next city to find what he called a ‘real’ mechanic.
We all learn about the Civil War, Emancipation, Women’s Suffrage, Civil Rights, Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and so many other events, milestone, and people that helped change our country for the better. But how many of us today….’Generation X’, or even ‘Generation Y’ can say we lived through something that will have a monumental impact on the hopes, dreams, and opportunities of our children and grandchildren? And no, the next generation of X-Box and Virtual reality doesn’t count. I’m talking about the human factor. Read the rest of this entry »
